Is Your Office Green?

Offices aren’t always the greenest of environments, so here are a few of my tips on how to make yours more green.

Everyone is guilty of leaving a room and forgetting to turn the lights off. When lights aren’t needed or you are leaving the room for longer than a few minutes make sure you or someone else turns off the lights. Once you start to remember to do this it will become instinct. Another easy thing to do when you finish work for the day is make sure that all computers have been fully shut down and printers etc have been turned off.

It’ easy to forget to recycle when we are work as our mind is preoccupied with other things. I personally believe that anything that can be recycled should be.┬áIt shouldn’t matter if you are at work or at home. I would really recommend that all offices nominate one person to be the Green Hero. It’s then the Green Hero’s responsibility to make sure everyone knows where they should put recycling and what can actually be recycled.

I’m not going to tell you to stop using paper at work, but there are certainly things you can do to cut down on paper usage. Instead of writing notes to colleagues why not switch to quickly sending them an email instead. Not only are you saving paper but time too. If you really need to print documents try to use both sides of the paper. Lastly make sure that any paper waste you have goes in the recycling bin.

Try to only buy fair trade tea and coffee, along with organic milk. Also instead of using disposable cups for hot drinks make sure everyone has their own mug.
