The Good, The Bad And The Damn Right Crazy!

Having never used online dating myself, before joining Warehouse Dating, I have to admit that I didn’t know too much about the gigantic industry that I have now found it to be. Having joined the business in late September, I was excited at the prospect of learning new things and a new industry. Since being here I have had to have a crash course on online dating and there are definitely some things that I never knew about online dating.

I have a couple of friends that have successfully found love online and are now in fact happily married. To be honest, I didn’t realise the scale of the online dating world before becoming the PR Manager of the Guildford based Warehouse Dating (WD). 1 in 5 relationships now start online which is a staggering amount. More and more people of all ages are grabbing their laptops and tablets and turning to the web for love.  I have found it a real eye opener in terms of how many niche dating sites there are and how popular these have become. People want to find like minded people with those who have similar interests and don’t want to have to speak to hundreds of members in the hope that they find someone with shared passions.

To my surprise, once I started looking into it, I was humoured to see that some of the most successful websites that we own and manage were indeed niche sites. I never imagined that a Star Trek themed TrekDating.com would even exist, let alone be so hugely popular!

Along that train of thought, I have to confess that since joining WD I knew little about Star Trek…oh boy has this changed and sadly I now know a fair few Klingon words… The more adult side of the business was also rather intriguing…say no more.

Social media is key. Contacting your networks on the various social media channels is a great way to interact with your members and potential members. Keeping tabs on the worldwide holidays is a bit of a challenge I have to say but with a nice full calendar, hopefully we shouldn’t miss too many important ones!

A couple of weeks ago the WD team spent a few days in London mixing with other industry individuals and I have come to realise that, much like my past in Wines & Spirits, the online dating industry is just as fun! I think this online dating world is definitely a work hard, play hard environment and I look forward to the next few months of madness!
